VINTAGE 1914 NO. 3A FOLDING POCKET KODAK AUTOGRAPHIC CAMERA. Shipped with USPS PRIORITY MAIL.
This camera is the No 3A Folding Pocket Kodak with a strong aluminum body, nickel fittings, and covered with seal grain leather. These cameras were made, starting in 1903 through 1915. This one was made in 1914.
This camera takes 3 1/4 x 5 1/2 pictures on A-122 size film, and originally sold for around $60.00 back then, in 1914. That would translate to $1400.00 today. It was a nice quality camera for the time. This camera features the Bausch & Lomb Rapid Rectilinear lens and the Kodak Ball Bearing shutter with several selections of speeds from T, B, 1/100, 1/25, of a second. It also features an adjustable focus, a reversible brilliant viewfinder, and 2 tripod sockets. The camera was easy to use because of its easy erecting shelf and bed, just like the original No 1 which wasn't autographic. With the autographic feature, it allowed the user to actually write on the film as they shot the pictures. The original stylus is missing in most autographic cameras, as is this one. These cameras were popular during WWI, as they would fit into the jacket pocket.
This camera is in very good condition for its age, with a little patina, as shown in my many pictures. The nickel finish around the lens and the lettering is brilliant, with practically no tarnishing. The leather covering is cracked/peeling in a few spots, as shown in my pictures. Mechanically, the camera is good. The shutter works perfectly at all speeds. The red lens is good, the bellows are very good looking. The nickel metal frame around the bellows is in good condition with no visible tarnishing, as shown. The lens slides out, and back in, very easily. The stand is perfect and bright. The brilliant viewfinder is very good, and the carrying handle is in decent condition (minor cracking). Most of the handles are missing on these older cameras. All the lenses are all reasonably clean, inside and out. With the push of the button, the folding lens and bellows pull out easily, and you're ready to shoot. Original patents were granted in 1898, 1902, 1909, and 1914. The camera is a larger one, measuring 10" long when folded up.
For being 106 years old, this camera's condition is not expected. You'll have to look hard to find a camera in this condition.
